Eva Toth
Eva was born in Hungary and immigrated with her family to Montreal in 1956 when her family fled the civil war. She received degrees from McGill University and Western and has worked in the career counseling field. Her sense of adventure has led her to work in Labrador and the NWT, as well as a year long journey travelling through China, Tibet, India and Nepal; even to Everest Base Camp. Her love of kayaking began in Nova Scotia where she has extensive experience kayaking the beautiful islands of the south shore. She is a dedicated long distance bicyclist and her trips to Provence often inspire future paintings.
In spite of all these distractions or possibly because of them, Eva’s real passion for the past 8 years has become her art. Largely self taught, she was mentored by well-loved valley water colorist, Helen Beals. Recently, she has taken courses from Jane Schlossberg and currently is a member of the group Artspa in Fall River. She has taken workshops from Wayne Boucher, Anne Templeton, Leya Evelyn and Brian Atyeo.
Her artistic vision explores the abstracted aspects of her past travels as well as her current themes. Her signature style is to work loosely with bold / bright colors and textures. She prefers to work largely from her memory and imagination rather than from photographs. Eva has exhibited in group shows as well as individual ones in Nova Scotia. Her works are in private collections in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary.
